Yours unapologetically

Those who know me well and those who know me in passing are both aware of my usage (also called obsession) of the word sorry. It seems to confuse, irritate, annoy, appease, amuse, and relax people at different times. Slowly, this word has become a part of my regular dictionary but I'd like to clarify that I don't do it for others. It's for my own self, or at least it was. For the longest time, I had this belief that it would help soften the inconvenience I was statistically bound to make. If I'm being honest, it hasn't changed much but I do realize that holding on to it is proving to be inconvenient to my own self. Have you ever felt like a convenience store or a mood board? That's how I've been feeling lately. Like a blank canvas with paints being thrown at me but the colors aren't my choice. Maybe all I'm doing is rambling but it does give a sense of clarity to me. I don't want to be a canvas always, I want to throw colors, I want to b...

Negotiating with prosaicness

Prosaic. To be honest, when I first read this word, I remember feeling that it would be something related to being fancy or vintage. My dictionary proved me wrong. When I think back to the times when I used to check every new word in the dictionary, I feel strangely happy. Nowadays, doing anything apart from the routine seems to be a little implausible and to be honest, a little overwhelming as well. Does that happen when prosaicness comes to define your everyday? I know I sound whiny but well that's the advantage of having a blog. I can unabashedly ramble about anything and everything without irritating a soul. People consider having a routine synonymous with a disciplined life but what do you do when each day feels the same? Similar levels of procrastination, managing work schedules with regular chores and everyday stuff, and the need to recharge yourself with good content and food. And it's on repeat. Or maybe I'm just overthinking... Maybe it's the same for everyone...

Misaeng

After watching the show 'Misaeng' (roughly translated into 'incomplete life'), it led me to think how ridiculous the phrase 'complete life' would sound.  Isn't it supposed to be a work in completion? Yes, I'm uselessly mincing words trying to sound more optimistic on paper than I do in real. But to be honest, the word was etched in my mind ever since I finished the series and it was only after reading more of it's reviews (because that's a usual fangirling process) that I discovered it to be a misnomer. The term actually means 'not yet' which does make sense. I doubt my high school English professor would be amused at me writing a paragraph to explain the title but then I don't have to turn this in, it's my post so be it. But but coming back to the show: it's a story of an underdog, a regular Joe working hard to make his place in the office where no one ( and no situation) leaves any stone unturned to make him realize how ine...

Where is my Sandbox?

People who know me probably know that somewhere unintentionally and unconsciously I register and emulate details I've read or seen. Somehow some things get stuck in my head and they stay there, which might be a reason for the limited capacity of my long-term memory register but that's another story. But then is it just me? Don't we all feel affected by some dialogue we read or heard? Or maybe something from a conversation? A string of words that made us think and ponder. A phrase that we wanted to remember for a long time. Even if these were fleeting, I think it happens with some of us or maybe all of us.  Recently I was having a conversation with someone which led to a discussion on being ambitious. I don't know why but somehow whenever I used the word or heard it, it always had a taint of authoritarian connotation in my head. It was synonymous with power, risk-taking abilities, and most importantly decisiveness and strength. Now, that I'm writing about it, it make...

Ephemeral period

There are some words you know but don't get an opportunity to use and ephemeral is one of them for me. It means short-lived., transient and evanescent. Often used in conjugation with beauty, it originates from the Japanese analogy of the flower as an ephemeral being as it blooms for only a short period. It emphasizes appreciating the simple and little things in life while reflecting on its' fleeting nature. As I sat down to write a post after what seemed a long time, the word kept floating in my mind till I typed it. Maybe that's the only way I can describe the last few months. When somebody asks me what I learned or what I miss, I fail to answer it honestly maybe because I don't have a response yet. Should I have an answer? Can the experience be summed in a few sentences that sound just the right amount of emotions? Not too much, not too less, just the right amount. When I think about it, I remember the seemingly silly day-to-day affairs of waking up to bright sunlight...

The caterpillar phase

Brace yourself: Since I haven't written in a long time, this is quite a lengthy post.  I always thought it was an exaggeration: walking in moon lit paths and staring at the night sky. This Saturday I realized that my skepticism emerged from ignorance and inexperience. Not that I didn't take walks before but simply because I was never invested in them or took time out especially for a walk. To me, taking a walk and walking had always been synonymous or maybe it was just a way to pretend that I actually did something to keep myself fit ( which is a big lie). Nevertheless, the reason for this poetic beginning to the post is that I'd discovered my love for enjoying walks. I find myself looking forward to the evening when I can drop my bag, leave my room and just step out for an hour or so to walk. Just to walk. And I love it. I love taking a new path to walk everyday and stare at the stars at times because they're too beautiful to ignore. No, I'm not in love - just putt...

Sweet Nostalgia

For the past five months, all I've done is writing one draft after the other for my dissertation, so of course, writing a post wasn't on my mind because all I would do would be ranting and rambling on. I already do that enough every day, and I'm lucky that the people who're at the receiving end haven't cut me off already. I am thankful. And grateful. But this post is dedicated to and inspired by a beautiful show, a k drama that compelled me to write. I've been regularly watching k dramas since last year, and to be honest, I've come across some great ones which made me cry, laugh, think and smile. Quite a few of them are really good, and I can't help fangirling about them especially shows like  It's Ok to not be Ok  where the story is so intricately woven that you feel like you've discovered something incredible. However, among all of us, the most recent one that I finished watching just a little while ago was  Romance is a Bonus Book . Pleas...
